Positive Action through Learning Support

The Positive Action through Learning Support Project (PALS)

The Positive Action through Learning Support Project (PALS) is a partnership between Nottingham Dyslexia Action and Nottinghamshire Probation Service, based at the Nottingham Centre. PALS provides assessment and tuition to both basic skills and dyslexic offenders on a community punishment order. PALS has been running for over ten years.

All probation services now have to offer education provision and annual targets are set by the Home Office. PALS is accredited through OCR to organise and invigilate the national Literacy and Numeracy qualifications from the Skills for Life agenda.

PALS has been recognised as a quality provider by both the Home Office and other probation services, especially for its work with dyslexic offenders. It produces ‘PALS Press’, a quarterly review which features new developments and ‘good news’ stories.

The funding for the PALS project has unfortunately been withdrawn so the project is no longer operational.
