Support for individuals

With the right support dyslexia need not be a barrier to success.

As a charity we’re passionate about providing the right help and support to enable people with literacy and numeracy difficulties, dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties change their lives. We do this by:

  • Providing free advice
    • Our Learning Centres offer free 30-minute advice sessions so people can discuss their concerns and find a way forward. We also offer free advice and resources via our website.
  • Offering dyslexia and specific learning difficulty testing - We offer a range of assessments. Options range from a short screening assessment to a full diagnostic assessment:
    • Diagnostic assessment
      • We provide two types of diagnostic assessments which may indicate dyslexia and/or dyscalculia. Dyspraxia can also be diagnosed for those who are 16+, for educational purposes. Both assessments result in a report which provides recommendations for the individual, to help with the most appropriate way forward.
    • Screenings
      • A screening can help to identify someone’s strengths and areas that require support, if they are experiencing difficulties, so they can start to receive the support they need to progress. They can be very useful, but are not diagnostic, so cannot be used to diagnose a specific learning disability.
  • Providing specialist help
    • Dyslexia Action Learning Centres offer specialist tuition, short skills courses and catch-up clubs to help develop literacy and numeracy skills or other needs, such as organisational skills. Our specialists help support children, young people and adults in developing coping strategies. Courses are also available for parents to help them in supporting their children with literacy and numeracy difficulties, dyslexia and other specific learning difficulties.
