Yot (youth Offending Team) Project

Essex and London YOT (Youth Offending Team) Project

Funded by the Wates Foundation, Dyslexia Action started a three year project in April 2008, which provides awareness, screening and apprentice training to staff in nine YOTs. This project aims to provide long term support to young offenders.

From April 2008 - 2009 working with Chelmsford, Islington and Hackney YOTs we delivered:

Awareness training to 52 members of staff
Screening training for 13 key members of staff
Following screening 8 young people are now receiving literacy support and 6 young people have specialist tuition with a Dyslexia Action teacher.

We started work with Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hillingdon YOTS in April 2009. By the end of the second year of this project (April 2010), it is expected that 60 – 80 young people will be reached and by the end of the third year more than 150 should have been screened and supported.
