This year, Dyslexia Awareness Week (DAW) will be held on: Monday 8th October - Sunday 14th October
During DAW, dyslexia groups, including Dyslexia Action, come together to raise awareness of dyslexia and the support and services available for people with the specific learning difficulty.
This year we are focussing on Empowering Teachers!
There is currently no requirement for teachers to have any training in how to identify dyslexia or even how to support those with it. 10% of the population has dyslexia to varying degree. That's a huge amount of children in classrooms across the UK!
We will be hosting events in our regional centres to support the work of local teachers and will be making a huge noise on social media so please follow us and get involved in the campaign!
We are working with The British Dyslexia Association to campaign for appropriate and adequate training in dyslexia for teachers and ask that you sign and share the petition to make Dyslexia training a mandatory part of Initial Teacher Training (ITT).
